This Privacy Policy describes how ThatsMethedUp ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use our website at https://thatsmethedup.com (the "Site").
What the Site Is
The Site is a headline aggregator for methamphetamine-related news: arrests, seizures, court cases, and the policy around them. We collect headlines from other news outlets, group the ones that cover the same story, and link to the outlets' own articles. We do not host those articles, and reading one takes you to the outlet's website, which has its own privacy policy that we do not control.
Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Accounts: If you create an account, we collect the name, email address, and password you provide. Passwords are stored as one-way hashes, never as plain text.
- Comments: When you post a comment, we collect the comment text and any name you choose to attach to it. Comments may be posted without an account.
- Submissions: If you submit a story or link to us, we collect what you submit.
Information Collected Automatically
- Server Logs: Like most websites, our servers record standard request information when you visit, including your IP address, browser type, the pages you request, and the time of the request. These logs are used for security and to keep the Site running.
- Outbound Click Counts: When you click a headline that leads to another outlet, the link passes through our Site so we can count which stories readers open. For each click we record the story clicked, the time, your browser type, and a one-way hash of your IP address. We do not record the raw IP address with the click, and the hash cannot be turned back into it.
- Hashed IP Addresses on Comments: Comments are stored with a one-way hash of the poster's IP address, including anonymous comments, so we can limit spam and abuse.
- Cookies: The Site sets a session cookie needed for logging in and for protecting forms against forgery. We do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Third-Party Services
- Fonts: Page typography is loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser sends a request, including your IP address, to Google when a page loads. Google's privacy policy governs that request.
- Embedded Media: Some older archived stories embed video or social-media posts from services such as YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X, or Spotify. Those services may set their own cookies and collect information when an embed loads. Current headline pages contain no embeds.
- Hosting and Network Providers: Our hosting and network providers may process request data in the course of delivering the Site.

Automated Systems and AI
We use automated systems, including machine-learning models, to decide which collected articles are about the same story and which section of the Site a story belongs in. These systems do not write any text that appears on the Site. Every headline shown is the headline published by the outlet named beside it, and no image, summary, or article text on current headline pages is generated by AI.
Archived stories. Stories published before September 2026 remain available in the Site's archive. Those older stories carry a rewritten headline and a short AI-assisted summary drawn from the linked source, and some include an illustration that was generated by artificial intelligence. Those images are illustrations, not photographs, and should not be taken as a factual depiction of any event, person, or place. No AI-generated image or text is used on the Site's current headline pages.
Data Retention
Server logs are rotated on a rolling basis. Click counts, comments, and account information are kept for as long as the Site operates or until you ask us to delete them.
Data Security
We implement reasonable security measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your Choices
You can read the Site without an account and comment anonymously. You can open any outlet's article directly instead of through our link, which means we will not count the click. You can ask us to delete your account or comments using the contact below.
Children's Privacy
The Site is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will promptly delete that information.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post the updated policy on the Site with a new "last updated" date. Your continued use of the Site after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
